If the Earth is here, God’s promises remain
A day is coming when the Earth will be burned up in God’s judgement. Until then, God is giving you time to turn to him.
While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. —Genesis 8:22
Right after the flood that covered the whole Earth had subsided, God made a promise to the eight survivors.
He would
- There will be time for planting and time for harvesting
- The weather will be dynamic
- The seasons will continue to cycle
- There will continue to be day and night
This simple promise—something everyone can see—continues to this day. God’s promises are true.
Yet, the earth will be destroyed (Revelation 20:15) and there will be a new heaven and new earth (Revelation 21:1). Then God will be the light and there will be no need of sun or noon (Revelation 21:23, Revelation 22:5) or seasons (Revelation 22:2).
What we see now is temporary. What is coming is eternal. What’s the bridge between then and now? Judgement on sin.
It happened once with water, but the next judgement is with fire.
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
—2 Peter 3:5-7
The remedy for sin is simple—Jesus paid it all. The only thing remaining is for you to take his gift of eternal life and then follow him.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. —Romans 10:9
