Winning Souls
It’s not busywork to seek after the lost. Making Godly choices is a wise way to live.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life;
and he that winneth souls is wise. —Proverbs 11:30
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life”
Everything we do produces fruit.
Our natural human nature just does what it wants to do, and that goes against God. We don’t know what is right or wrong except when God tells us—which he has in the Bible. God has put it in our heart to know when things are right or wrong.
We naturally choose to ignore right things all the time. We need to turn our hearts over to God by admitting that we do wrong. The Bible calls doing wrong sin, and sin leads to judgment and death.
Righteousness—doing right, specifically what God says is right—produces the fruit which is a tree of life. When we acknowledge our sin towards God, and turn to Jesus, who died for our sins, we receive eternal life.
We now have an ally in the Holy Spirit, which dwells in us, to defer to him instead of our flesh. We can live in righteousness.
“he that winneth souls is wise”
When we live righteously we demonstrate our obedience towards God. This testimony in our everyday lives, while not perfect in ourselves, is a beacon to the lost souls. You can overcome, and it’s God who does it.
There is nothing foolish in winning souls to Christ. One of the wisest things we can do is tell others the way to eternal life so they can escape their current path into eternal judgement.
To win is not to accomplish it ourselves. There’s only one wha can save, and that is God. Yet we can live, preach, teach, and love in a way that points the lost to the way to be saved.
That’s a win for eternity.
